Candid Conversations at ATILA

This panel will present you a candid, vulnerable, and genuine conversation about the law school, career, and life. Below is bios of the speakers in their own words.

Rayhan Asat

Born and raised in the iconic silk road Marco Polo traveled through, my journey took me to the other side of the Atlantic, North America. Educated in Canada, I started my legal career in Istanbul, Turkey, after falling in love with my Turkic roots, the vibrant Istanbul, and everything the city offered! I embody life-long learning, and after spending three lovely-years in Istanbul and befriending some of the best people as my life-long friends, I pursued LL.M. at Harvard law school. After graduating, I have been working at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP. I love pursuing my curiosity and learning the language of business through Harvard Business School Online, which paved the way for my entrepreneurship, adding entrepreneur title to my lawyer title. My mantra in life: "Dance with your curiosity and let it lead you to the most magical destinations in your career and life!"

Asli Orhon

Born and raised Istanbul, Asli has completed her legal studies in Galatasaray University and spent her early career years in an international law firm located in Istanbul. Her interest in learning about other cultures, desire to live in other countries and passion to grow personally led her to move to the U.S. in 2012. After completing her LL.M. at Harvard, she spent an additional year in DC as a foreign associate in Crowell & Moring and returned home to join HPE’s Istanbul office as their head of Legal for Turkey. She found herself back in D.C. again in 2018 to work as the Senior Counsel at HPE’s Virginia office. She now enjoys living in Washington, DC, doing yoga and travelling to exotic locations. Asli’s mantra: Focus on the things you have and try to make the best out of them!

Christina Wood

Although I am a Washingtonian now, I grew up in Taegu, South Korea as a child. I went to university at both James Madison in Harrisonburg, VA and Leicester University in the Midlands. After college I decided to pursue a JD in DC. I went to law school at American University at night and worked at the Defense Logistics Agency during the day. I moved to Istanbul, Turkey in the summer of 2015 for a summer program exploring the legal perspectives on the Rule of Law, Human Rights, and Current Issues in Turkey. After completing my summer program, I stayed in Istanbul for an internship at a Turkish firm practicing International Arbitration. I moved to Madrid, Spain for the summer of 2016 to take arbitration classes at Carlos III International School. After finishing my JD, I took a job as an Associate at Venable LLP in Washington, DC.
